The Ames Community School District is excited to announce Jessica Sharp as the new principal of Edwards Elementary School. Sharp is currently a Behavior Strategist in the Ames Community School District, a position she has held since 2019. In this position, she provided support across the District in the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support and oversaw the District’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).

Sharp has led professional development for teachers, behavioral interventionists, and administrators in classroom management, positive behavior intervention strategies, and the use of accommodations and modifications to increase student access to core curriculum and to close the achievement gap. She has broad experience in the area of special education and has supported special education teachers in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) and 504 documentation.

She received her Masters in Educational Administration from the University of Northern Iowa in 2014. She has certifications in Youth Mental Health First Aid, is a Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Trainer in the Ames District, and is a Restorative Practice Trainer.

Upon accepting the position, Sharp said, “I am very excited for the opportunity to work with and alongside the Edwards staff, parents, and our community to continue the amazing work already happening so that each student has the absolute best personal and educational experience.”

Sharp’s contract was approved on June 9, 2020, with a start date of July 1, 2020. As a District, we are excited to continue working with Mrs. Sharp and look forward to her leadership at Edwards Elementary School and the vast knowledge that she will bring to the Ames Community School District.
